Late last night we got a call about a dog screaming in agony in a crowded Sofia housing estate. The caller complained that a dog was howling in horrible pain for hours on – another one of those “come fix it, it’s your job” cases.
Our Martin and Mila – the only ones who were able to respond at such a late hour and drive into the night to find Rex in a terrible state. He was agonizing under the balkonies of a huge appartment building, screaming in pain and with noone to help him. More than 60 families must live in the building where he lay helpless, but not a single person whent down to see what was wrong.
Mila and Marto rushed to St.Antim 24hour vet clinic to get help. The doctors were shocked to see an animal in so much pain. They supposed the dog was either poisoned or suffering from a terrible stroke on the head. X-rays showed he was full of small hunting bullets and he had a severe brain edema – both of which could be the cause of his agonizing pain. They immedeately sedated him and put him on fluid infusions.
This morning Rex was feeling better and we decided he should be transferred to the Bogrov clinic, because his vet bills had gone up to 70E with all the tests and exams he needed. Vets expect him to get better and be in less pain as soon as his edema starts to cool down. He still faces an uncertain future.
If you would like to help Rex and us by covering a part of his bills you can donate to Animal Rescue Sofia.
