Distemper took our Mathilda.
The mother whose puppies were ran over on the highway, who nursed 7 abandoned babies back to life is now gone. Distemper took our best girl in only two days.
She started coughed a couple of times, her temperature peaked, she lay down… and couldn’t get up any more. We tried everything, but achieved nothing. We lost her forever.
They say dogs don’t have a soul. That they cannot think, they don’t know gratitude, guilt or love. That their behavior is formed by instincts and reactions, they are “just” animals.
Mathilda was nothing less than a person. And if she had a human body, she would also be “a saint” in the eyes of people. Dogs like her come once in a million and remain in your heart forever.
Mathilda was a black angel. A gentle, clever, obedient and delicate soul. A devoted mother, a faithful friend. If there is no Heaven for Mathilde, then there is no heaven at all.
Forgive us for not being able to save you.
Forgive us for being able to help you save the babies you loved.
Forgive us. We will always love you, dear girl.
