Today, Svetoslav Petrov – an integral part of Animal Rescue Sofia from the very beginning, should be celebrating his birthday. We’re saying “should be” because he is actually currently on his way to Germany with 11 of our dogs to grant them the wonderful future they deserve.
Overall this explains the kind of person Svetlyo is. Always there when needed, no matter if it’s for pulling a dog out of a pit, sleeping in a barn because some orphan needs feeding every few hours, or (that one he actually does least readily) fixing a broken washing machine, a fence or unclogging the sewers in the shelter.
We asked him what he wanted for his birthday and we got the completely serious answer – hay and alfalfa for the winter.
Yes, our horse and farm animal sanctuary “The Ranch” was born out of Svetlyo’s love for them!
The Ranch currently has 25 horses, 2 donkeys, 6 goats and one ram, a buffalo, a cow, and a pony. To have an easy winter, they need lots and lots of hay, and we have about half of it provided so far. Unfortunately, prices this year have risen tremendously (a large roll of hay costs about 60 lv, and when there is no pasture, i.e. about three months a year, we spend on all animals one whole roll a day).
