For 3 years now animal wellfare organizations and activists have struggled hard for a change in the Penalty Code – currently animal cruelty is only punishable as an administrative offence. That means you only have to pay as little as 250Е if you brutaly mutalated and killed an animal. We rescue dogs that have suffered cruelty every single day. In most cases we know who the offender is, but they suffer no consiquence.
Read more about the situation in Bulgaria HERE.
As you are already informed – as many as 60 000 signatures have been deposited in the Bulgarian Parliament for a change in the Penalty code. The first time it was the Legal comission in the Parliament to discard the proposed changes based on nothing, but desinterest in the matter. Thanks to the big public support the proposed changes have been reviewed again and this time have PASSED THROUGH Legal commision! The Parliament has made a promice to discuss the changes the following week.
Thanks to journalist Diliana Gaytanjieva NOVA TV aired a shocking report in two parts about illegal dog fighting in Bulgaria. Of all the animal cruelty acts dog fighting is the only one banned in Bulgaria. There is a police officer involved in dog-fighting, the shocking report uncovers his face and name, showing him as a judge and organizer of dog fights. This man is still in the Police force. Please, join the FACEBOOK GROUP called officer Stefan Naydenov must be jailed for his crime by law.

Our sincere thanks to Tierhilfe Sofia for sending precious neutering materials and medication for the Bogrov clinic! Your help is deeply appreciated.
We are very grateful to Mrs Sonia Mritreva and our friends at Animalhope – Tierhilfe Nitra for helping us feed the dogs in Kremikovtzi. We’ve almost came to a point where the dogs are returning to a normal physical condition (at least the more social ones) and it is vital to have them healthy to a point where we can organize their neutering on the spot. Many of the disabled animals on the site have now learned that the appearance of Vessy and Marietta means food and they run out to greet them with wagging tales. Some of the pups have also began to be more social, we are vaccinating them on the spot. Here are a few photos from one of the routine feedings in the factory:

Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
Every shelter is full. We are lost but not found.
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
We hope every minute that someone will care.
We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads….
Of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.
Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears ~
Our friends filled with emptiness, worry and fear.
If you can’t adopt us and there’s no room at your inn ~
Could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year ~
Can you give more than hope to everyone here?
