Impossible is nothing or how strong the will to stay alive could be – a story by the foster parents Ina and Valia
Her story is quite long although she is only one year old. She’s gone through a lot of hardship but didn’t give up and survived with a little help from her friends.
After she had been abandoned, one sunny summer day Tara found herself maundering about the streets alone. Thus, her life as a stray god had begun. Unfortunately, in short time she discovered how awful, miserable and painful the life of a stray dog could be.
She was hit by a car. Both her hind legs were badly broken; her bones showed off the flesh. She could neither move nor walk. It was her strong will to survive and a couple of people who fed her during this time that saved her life. Sadly, no one tried to bring her to a doctor. Three hard and painful weeks later, she could step on her feet and walk again, but her legs were deformed and swollen from the infection…
This was when we found her.
02.09.2009 – We brought her to the vet. In the clinic they said that the legs do not need an operation because though crooked they’d almost healed. She was walking and even running. So, we started treating mainly the severe infection with antibiotics which the vets prescribed. Very soon, there was an evident improvement.
A month passed, and even though we were feeding her and giving her medicines and vitamins every day, she was still living in the street where we’d found her. It was evident that we had to find her a shelter where she would be safe and protected from more incidents. Meanwhile, I’d heard good comments about a vet who was working in a dog shelter (former Municipal isolator) in Pernik (a town 50 kilometers away from Sofia). I’ve contacted the people who were managing the former isolator and asked them to take her for several months while searching for a new home for her. They agreed.
01.10.2009 – We brought her to the dog shelter.
Unfortunately, things are not always like they seem or pretend to be. Due to a combination of circumstances, and bad luck probably, Tara caught the flu there, which quickly turned into pneumonia. No one there took care of her and the first two-three weeks we were not aware of her actual condition and how serious it was. On the fifth week of her stay in the dog shelter we found her skinny and exhausted, she couldn’t breathe and … was almost dead.
07.11.2009 – We brought her to the vet clinic again. She stayed there 13 days. The first week was a hard one. The vets couldn’t guarantee that she will survive this time. But, Tara survived! A walking skeleton but, alive!
21.11.2009 – I took her home after they discharged her from the vet clinic. So, we proceeded with the prescribed treatment – three types of antibiotics, vitamins and quality food. As Tara’s organism was young and strong, she started recovering faster than we expected.
Meanwhile, we neutered, vaccinated and chipped her.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to keep her longer at my house. And just when I was the most desperate and broken-hearted person in the whole world for I have to bring her to a Dog hotel or another dog shelter, the destiny was favorable to Tara one more time. A foster family came in to give a helping hand. Stassi and her family took Tara at their house for a month.
03.01.2010 – Tara went to Stassi’s house. For about a month Stassi has been taking care of her and our girl became again the one we used to know – cheerful and playful.
27.02.2010 – Unfortunately, Stassi had to leave abroad and as we couldn’t bring Tara back to my house we took her to a dog hotel. This was a hard decision to take but the only one possible at this time. During her stay at the hotel we were visiting her at least two times a week, taking long walks and playing with her.
28.03.2010 – Happy day! – Stassi took Tara back at her house. There Tara will wait impatiently for her new and permanent home, for her true and forever loving and caring people.
We do believe that somewhere is her human friend waiting for her – one who would give her all his love! Be sure that Tara would do the same! So, we keep on searching for that friend and a cozy home for our girl.
Despite all the troubles she had gone through, Tara is a very cheerful, loving and playful dog. She is full of energy and always ready to play. Actually, she bursts of energy. Always “smiling” and looking curiously at you with her smart amber eyes, ready to learn a new command. She would be the perfect companion for those who like working dogs breeds. She is very intelligent and shows good abilities in obedience training. She will be the one staying always by your side – loyal and protective.
Will you be her beloved human?
