Mathias from Kremikovtzi has a home

A lovely letter was received from our sweet Mathias – one of the kindest dogs we picked up just days before they gave in to starvation when we worked at the Kremikovtzi factory.

When we took him, Mathias weighed about a quarter of what he should weigh, he already had his little tick on the front leg and had the biggest bear-face in the whole Kremikovtzi group. At the shelter, Mathias was an excellent pupil, just like most of the dogs we picked up from that hell-hole. He put on weight, he became a lovely white elephant and without any pretense decided this is the happy life he had dreamed of. Now, a year later, we know he was destined for a far greater happiness than what we can give him here. But we will let him tell you by himself:

Hello.

I am that white boy with the orange spots that until recently lived in cage 14 at the Bogrov shelter, spending his time counting the minutes till it is Saturday and the volunteers arrive.

I don’t remember much of the first years of my life, maybe because it wasn’t a good time for me. But I do remember spending a long time at the Bogrov shelter where I learnt to walk on a lead and accept humans as friends. It was there that I got my name – Mathias.

It’s been a month now since I’ve found my family – Martina, Julia and Yavor. Although it was hard for me in the beginning and I missed my friends at the shelter, I quickly got used to my new life. The new home was strange. I had to walk through doors and don’t get me started on the elevator horror! But in time I found that it actually leads to walks and is a good spot for treats, so I dealt with it.

I have a roommate here – a cat that seems to be scared of me, but comes to check me out when she thinks I am sleeping. I am a little cautions with my own kind. I miss my friends at the shelter, but have begun to kind of like the new ones. I still don’t play with them, but I like to look at them and I really love to go along with them for muddy swims in the local swamp. I never had this opportunity back at the shelter, so I try to catch up on being wet. I have a lovely friend here – Lachony, I always look for her first thing I go out.

Most of all I like to go on long walks with my people – out of town, where there is less noise and cars. I now know that the cat brings good emotion and takes me to a good place. There, I bravely go forth and only stop to look back and check if my people are following me. I have my own villa that I love to go to and help out in the garden. I do my best to protect it from intruders and my family was pleasantly surprised to hear that I can also bark.

I wish all my inmates to see the other side of life we never knew existed and be adopted soon. And on the fact if I am happy or not – you can make the decision yourself by the photos.

Love, Mathias
