If a female dog is neutered before it’s first season it is 100% safe from the risk of a mammary tumor. Few people know how often female pets end up with this horrible desease. Early neutering completely prevents it.
This little cocker lady is 5 years old. She has had puppies a few times – the myth that a female dog should be bred is very strong. Unfortunately this old wife’s story is also popular with some vets.
Her puppies have died, so as some of the ones before. Her owners didn’t know they were harming her health, they thought they did the right thing… When she got the huge tumor, they realised they hadn’t the money to operate her.
We removed the tumor and neutered the dog. She will never get ill with pyometra, she will never again have mastitis. But her owners could have saved her much of the stress and pain if they had thought about it better and chosen to neuter her on time.
