Grant was bought as a hunting dog. And then, he was tied up at a little house for 6 years in row, to “hunt” flies till he goes crazy. Who knows why, at a certain point he was no longer needed and given away to someone. That someone gave him to another. The investigation couldn’t find out why, but that last person tied up Grant in the woods and walked away.

This is the beginning of Grant’s story, a lovely 7-year old Kurzhaar – clever, noble, beautiful and… ill with heartworm.

Do you know what that is? Please, if you don’t, make sure to read THIS, it’s dangerous for your dog as well. Heartworm is a dangerous parasite in the heart, the infection passes through mosquito bites. It is very difficult to treat and often causes death of the host.

Grant (His name used to be Graf, but we decided there is no way that he could keep on carrying the name of his mean old life) is now one of us. He is still very weary of people, despite being so strong, when he has to be treated he panics and defends himself bravely. But this too shall pass when he learns we will not harm him. Otherwise, he is surprisingly good with other dogs. He knows to sit and stay, he is hungry like a wolf and really, really wants to live.

Unfortunately, that is a problem with no solution currently. Because the shelter cannot afford his treatment at this time. The calculus is quite scary:

-4D test for heartworm and tick diseases (BGN28, spent already)
-echocardiogram at the CVC (BGN40 + between 20 and 60 for anesthesia as he is very nervous with vets)
-1 month of preliminary treatment with doxycycline (we can cover it)
-3 vials of Immiticide (BGN80 each)
——-
In total: at least BGN330 for the life of Grant.
And we don’t have it.

Can you help him? Do you have anything to spare?
We have treated many dogs with this diagnosis successfully, he really has a chance. As long as we can provide him the medication needed.

If you do decide to make a life-saving donation for the boy, here are the ways to do it:

Besides Grant, we currently have one more dog with the same diagnosis in the clinic. Sweet Teddy. Only – he has his own sponsor and there is no risk to his treatment. Keep your fingers crossed for his health, please!

The strange thing is that Grant comes to us now, when we suddenly were kurzhaar-free (and we always have at least one, because the breed is popular with hunters and they are often in trouble, unfortunately). And since we were too busy to share with you the adoption of our last boy – Parker, and we hate leaving you with sad hearts, here he is today – happy and loved with Irina Mateeva in Sofia:

What do you think, can we make Grant as happy as we did Parker?
We really hope so!
Our sincere gratitude to anyone that decides to pitch in.
