Three-legged German Shepherd Suzie has found a most wonderful, loving home in the UK! She has been with her new friends for a week now and has shown herself as a truly golden dog, just as we hoped she would!
Suzie is an 8-year old dog who came to us after the warehouse she had spent guarding all her life was shut down. When she arrived, her leg was already amputated – her human friends at the warehouse had taken good care of her and their other dog all those years, but they had nowhere to go.
No longer in her youth and with a major handicap, despite her wonderful temperament, Suzie was never asked for. So, when our colleagues had the brilliant idea of creating a small database of “Golden dogs” – wonderful, yet not attractive animals stuck in shelters in our part of Europe, Suzie was one of the first we thought of.
To put a long story short – the magic has worked once again, proving that good things will come to all that are good, sooner or later – Suzie has been in her home for a week now, we are sharing a photo and a lovely letter from her new Mom, enjoy:
This is our account of Suzie’s first week covering the points she wrote:
1. Suzie is eating chicken and rice and she does love it, but she is on a slight diet.
2. Again, Suzie loves bones, but we are limiting her.
3. She loves clawing her bed to get cosy and when i make it, she looks at me and then messes it up again.
4. She has met dogs in the park and been friendy to some and a little shy to others.
5. She loved coming OUT the bath and went straight in the garden, rolling in the newly mowed lawn, covering herself in grass cuttings… BIG MISTAKE ON OUR BATH… and TOP TIP: don’t cut the lawn and THEN bath your dog! Although she did have fun!
6. Everywhere we go, people stop us and ask her story.
7. Suzie is so good in the car.
8. She has so so much loose fur, it will take a while to get it all out, we are brushing a little a day.
Suzie has adjusted to home life instantly, she has settled in and is an absolute joy, we just can’t believe how she has adapted so quickly, she is so well behaved and so friendly!
We were expecting her to take time to adjust, having a bad tummy off her food, wary of us, all the usual things you may expect from a rescue dog that has never had a home. We’ve had so many dogs that just need time to adjust, but not Suzie, I’m sure she is happy here! She is a real kisser too, all she wants to do is kiss you all the time , thank you for her rescue!
Alyson and Rob.
Our kindest regards to adopters Alyson and Bob – it is like honey dripping onto our hearts to read their account of Suzie’s happiness! There might be some lovely news coming up for another unwanted angel from the Old dog nursery, so keep all your fingers crossed!
And once again – hats off to our dear friends in the UK, who have helped so many of our “hopeless” dogs find true happiness in loving homes – blind Yotzo, Rex and Andy, one-eyed Daddy and Meteora, hopefully blind Misho will be going home soon – his hearworm treatment is nearly over with, Suzie is home and perhaps a secret friend might join her… aah, we know in our hearts Catherine, Bridget and all their wonderful helping angels have more miracles coming up for the saddest dogs of Sofia!!! THANK YOU, dear magicians! May you always have the courage, strength and support to work this kind of magic!
