19-20.03 Walks and photoshooting

Posted on 20 March 2011

Although it was a working day this Saturday we welcomed volunteers on both days in the weekend. Besides the much loved walking, we managed to wash and photograph quite a few dogs.

Photos are a huge problem to us – we need the help of talanted photographers to be able to make good photos of our dogs in order to offer them for rehoming in Bulgaria and abroad. If you are willing to help with this, please write to volunteers@arsofia.com.

A few photos from the playground for you:

Have you met d-r Nikolova?

Posted on 17 March 2011

D-r Iva Nikolova is a person who is responsible for the health of 500 dogs. She is Chief Doctor at Bogrov shelter. That means that any given moment she knows: who is given what medication; who needs to be vaccinated or dewormed and when; who has what illness and what procedures he needs; who needs special food; what medications need to be purchased and so on…

You can hardly imagine the ammount of paperwork Iva has to do as Chief Doctor for the clinic of Bogrov to function steadily. Even the vaccine fridge has it’s own diary where cooling temperature needs to be entered twice a day. Each vaccine is documented, each pill, each medical procedure. And Iva does all that without complaining – she knows rules are rules and the dogs need her every single day.

D-r Nikolova also prepares the dogs that leave for new lives abroad. She treats, vaccinates, mictochips, deworms and puts her signature down as a proof of health that the dogs are well and ready for their long journey. She knows the route well – she has travelled it herself on the bus.

It is astonishing to see petite d-r Nikolova stride about the cages in the big buidling, giving medications to dogs on long-term treatment from her special “daily medi-bag”. You can see her crouch down in the clinic gently petting a dog inbetween gentle storkes. The dogs are always unusually quiet and relaxed in her treatment room – they know she’s here to help.

12-13.03 Spring has come to Bogrov

Posted on 13 March 2011

It was a lovely, sunny weekend in Bogrov. We are very glad to report many volunteers and a hundred dogs walked this weekend. Warm regards to everyone who came to make the dogs happy – your help and affection is deeply appreciated. With the Roma getto neutering campaign, our staff is very short-handed – the dogs were thrilled to have you once again.

03-06.03 Holliday volunteering in Bogrov!

Posted on 06 March 2011

Thanks to everyone who came to Bogrov for help these 4 days! We thought there’d be little people at the shelter, but we were wrong – it was a great holliday for the dogs too!
Here are some familliar faces – the ones who benefit your coming:
