Risa stays at Ovidefarm

Posted on 18 April 2012 Post a comment

After Hans, the owner of our partner organization Ovidefarm, had to let go of is dog because of a huge liver tumor, he missed having the companionship of a dog.

So, he decided to adopt Bulgarian lady Resa! Resa does very well, she gets along with the goose, the ducks, the cats…. She feels right at home at her new place, completly house trained and hasn’t done any mischief!

Well done Resa and congratulations Hans! We will now have our own “bulgarian agent” at Ovidefarm!

Rocco finally went home!

This lovely boxer mix is a young boy named Rocco. On the photos above you can see his first few hours in Bogrov. He was a dearly loved pet dog whose owner passed suddenly, leaving him to the mercy of her relatives.

Unfortunately, the people did not honor her legacy. They tied Roddo up outside, leaving him hungry and alsone in the cold. Because his harness was making wounds in his amaciated body, Rocco was equipted with the torn t-shirt you see on the photos. But no treatment was administered to his neck and he still has a bad scar on it.

As the time passed lovely Rocco became the dog he is supposed to be originaly – a friendly, funny, huge giant with a permanent smile on his face. Unfortunately – a strange spell hung onto him and prevented his adoption.

Rocco’s code name is TwoVisitations. Did you guess why? Have you ever wandered why we ensist that the adoptive families come 3 times? Well, it is simple. We do it so the people who come asking for Rocco can back down juuust before our relief sigh. They come, they like him, they pass the interview, they come a second time, we arrange a day for his adoption… and they never show up. This has happened too many times! So, in 2012 we will begin Rocco’s adoption procedure with a small vodoo good-luck ritual that is called “You shall not fear thy third visitation!”.

For this bad luck of his he got the 4-th place in our Junx of the Year 2011 award:

Today as you have already understood – we celebrate a very special moment. The time when Rocco, our Mr.TwoVisitations has finally been accepted into a loving family and taken home!

We present to you, the new best friends Rocco and his new oner Gunal Husseinov!!!

Gunal first came to see another dog, but siply fell in love with Rocco. Since he had a young Alabai dog, we were sure things could hardly work out and asked him to please bring his other boy so that he meets Rocco first. Well, no need to say how much the two ginats loved each other! We are thrilled! Bye, Rocco and farewell! You will be greatly missed, but there is nothing that makes us happier than to see you go off with Gunal after 2 years in waiting!

3 small ladies rehomed

It is with the help of so many wonderful people that our animals are being rehomed. We want to cordially thank our friends at Colonel Angels for helping us find a safe passage for these darling girls:

Mitzi, Lulu and Pia are three tiny young female dogs that we simply couldn’t return back to the streets after neutering. Their sweet temperaments and small size would make them such an easy target for the thousands of people looking to harm a stray dog after the Malinova Dolina incident.

Our regards to Candy and Anne for helping these precious ladies find the loving homes they deserve!

Mitzy and Alex, Lulu and Zory, Pia and Mariana – 6 lovely ladies!

Miss Bulgaria 2012 contestants at the Bogrov shelter

The weeks before Ester were full of trouble for us as an Animal Wellfare NGO. After the horrid incident in Malinova Dolina, the friends of animals we witnessed a huge anti-dog campaign, unprecedented in all the 22 years of democracy since Bulgaria seazed to be a socialist country.

For that reason we were unable to share with you a fantastic event that took place in Bogrov a couple of weeks ago – the 13 contestants in the MISS BULGARIA 2012 show came to the shelter for a day of hard work alongside with the keepers.

Svetlio’s kind smile as he leads the contestants through the hard work of the shelter

Our kind regards to Denny Stoyanova and the wonderful team of “The way to the crown” who made this possible. Enjoy an hour in Bogrov and see for yourself how 13 fragile ladies felt in the harsh reality of a shelter for 500 dogs:

Bruce comes home to the shelter

Bruce – the dog that was shattered by a truck and found so many friends willing to help him get the surgery he needed has come back to the shelter after all his operations have been successfull!

Since he needs peace and quiet (and to be honest is so amazingly sweet that everyone prefers to have him around) he will be recovering the personel’s room at the shelter. He has a great apetite, so anyone willing to bring him something can get him canned food (he can’t chew the dry one).

We will keep you informed about Bruce’s recovery. Meanwhile he sends you his thanks and regards. To our great surprise this fighter turned out to be a very gentle and kind dog – usually someone with so much lust for life would be a hard charcter. This one is not – he is absolutely sweet and lovely! THANK YOU FOR SAVING HIM!
